An energy efficient vehicle designed, built and maintained by students at Northern Collegiate placed 15th in its field at the Shell Eco-marathon in Sonoma, California.

The 10-member Northern team achieved a fuel efficiency of 183 kilometres per litre (432 miles per gallon) on the test track.

Northern was the only Canadian high school at the competition, which was attended by more then 1,000 students from North and South America.

The vehicle, nicknamed Rover, was part of a field of 37 entries in the ‘Prototype Gasoline’ category with teams from the U.S., Brazil and Canada.

Brigham Young University won the category and the University of Toronto was second.

The event was held April 19-22 at Sonoma Raceway.
