Former Sting captain Daniel Nikandrov will play Canadian University hockey this season.

He has been recruited by the Toronto-based York University Lions.

Lions head coach Chris Dennis is excited to add the former Sarnia fan favourite to his roster, saying Nikandrov is a hard-working, well-rounded player.

Nikandrov was a fourth round choice by the Sting in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection and played four plus seasons in Sarnia before being dealt to the Peterborough Petes last November for a pair of draft picks in 2017.

The 21-year-old registered 43 goals and 132 points in 256 regular season OHL games, and a goal and four helpers in 16 playoff games over his five-year career.
