Tara Jeffrey The Windsor Spitfires have officially signed Sarnia’s Jack Nesbitt to an Ontario Hockey League standard player agreement for the 2023-24 season, officials announced this week.

The 16-year-old Northern Collegiate student was selected 20th overall by the Spitfires in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection Draft last month.

“You know it feels amazing, it is everything I’ve ever wanted since I was little,” Nesbitt stated in a news release. “It is a very special moment for me and playing for an amazing organization means so much and I can’t wait to get started.”

Nesbitt, who was the captain and leading scorer with the Lambton Jr. Sting’s AAA U-16 team this past season, recorded 20 goals and 29 assists in 28 games during the season. He also won gold with Team Ontario at the Canada Winter Games held earlier this year, scoring one goal in six games.

“Jack is a young man that we targeted early on in the season, he’s an elite player and we can’t wait to see him on the ice and in our community,” said Bill Bowler, general manager of the Spitfires. “He will be a big piece to the success of our organization.”
