Sarnia Police have escorted a growing number of wide loads over city roads recently and are urging motorists to be patient and take precautions.

Large industrial components on flatbed trucks are dangerous, difficult to maneuver, and unable to stop quickly.

Drivers who encounter a convoy escorted by police with emergency lights flashing should pull over as far as possible and wait, and they should never attempt to pass any vehicle in the convoy, said Const. Giovanni Sottosanti.

“We truly understand that this is an inconvenience but in the end we want to ensure everyone’s safety.”

Drivers should also be mindful hydro workers are often present raising electrical wires to let the convoy pass, he added.
