Local charities can apply for emergency support grants

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton approved another $66,000 in grants from the Emergency Compassion Support Fund last week.

The federal funding supports charities and other qualified groups adapting frontline services to support vulnerable residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The YMCA received two grants totalling $46,426 to create and distribute activity kids for families with low incomes and autistic children unable to attend summer camp this year.

Lambton Elderly Outreach got three grants totalling $17,200 for PPE, insulated food bags, and other protective measures including Plexiglas barriers.

And the Rapids Family Health Team received $3,000 to install Plexiglas screens in counselling areas.
