Local athletes shine at Canadian track and field championships

Athletes from the Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track and Field Club had an impressive showing at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Ottawa.

Athletes from the Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track and Field Club had an impressive showing at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Ottawa.

Jillian Drouin of Corunna won a silver medal in the senior women's high jump, Drouin, the sister of Olympic gold medalist Derek Drouin, clearing a height of 1.80M.

The club’s Marissa Mueller also landed on the podium with a javelin throw of 42.17M, which was good enough for silver in the women’s U20 javelin.

Zion Webb had a fourth place finish in the men’s U20 shot put, delivering a throw of 16.03M

Teammate and fellow St. Patrick’s High School student Johnny Vanos also came up just shy of the podium, placing fourth in U20 discus with a throw of 45.42M, while Northern Collegiate grad Sebastian Smith was fifth in U20 high jump.
