Lobby of Sarnia Arena getting a $1-million makeover

Published on

Work has begun on a $1-million renovation to the front lobby and food concession at Sarnia Arena.

Walls, counters, floors and the old ticket booth are being pulled out and replaced, and well as the doors to the front entrance and north and south lobby space.

When complete, the lobby of the venerable arena will have a new conversation area and seating, as well as an upgraded heating system.

New signs, minor brickwork repairs and energy efficient windows are also planned.

Council recently awarded the contract to Forest-based Wellington Builders, the lowest of four bidders at $1.07 million.

City staff say skaters and hockey players using the arena this winter will not be impacted.

Volunteer labour built the Sarnia Arena in the 1940s when five local service clubs and hundreds of ordinary people raise $250,000.
