A new heating and cooling system will arrive in May for installation at Sarnia’s downtown library branch.

Council approved a contract with Trane Heating and Cooling at a cost of $244,000 recently. With electrical and mechanical components, the total project is expected to cost $390,000.

The library’s air conditioning failed last August, and the city says the work will be done before the hot weather returns this summer.

The system will be more energy efficient and could save about $20,000 a year in electrical and natural gas costs, city staff says.
