The Lambton Lions men’s basketball team downed Sheridan College 100-78 at the OCAA playoffs on March 6 to bring home the bronze medal.

It was the team’s first medal finish since 1992 and third straight trip to the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association playoffs.

“It’s a great accomplishment for our staff and players to rank right up there with some of the best teams in the province,” said head coach James Grant.

Lambton came within a whisker of advancing to the gold medal game but fell 116-115 in triple overtime to Mohawk College in the semi-final.

Lambton’s Shawn Hill and Mike Lucier were each named OCAA Championship All-Stars.

The league also named Lucier its defensive player of the Year, while teammate Branden Padgett earned the league’s scoring leader award.

The Lions went into the tournament ranked sixth in Canada by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association and finished the regular season with a 13-5 conference record.
