Lambton County waiving fines on children’s library books

Lambton County has eliminated overdue fines on all children’s library books in a bid to boost early literacy. Borrowed children books still have due dates, and cardholders will still receive notices to return them. But late fines won’t be charged.

Lambton County has eliminated overdue fines on all children’s library books in a bid to boost early literacy.

Borrowed children books still have due dates, and cardholders will still receive notices to return them. But late fines won’t be charged.

Cardholders can typically borrow books for a three-week period, and renew it up to three times, provided someone else hasn’t placed a hold on it.

Children’s books that aren’t renewed or returned after three weeks following the due date will be deemed lost, and the cardholder charged the replacement cost.

The move, effective March 1, applies to all children’s print material at Lambton’s 25 library branches.
