The head coach of Lambton College’s first-ever women's softball team says he’s proud of how far the groundbreaking squad has come.
“The inaugural season has been a learning curve for all of us — players and coaches,” Greg Shortt said of the team, currently 2-10 on the season.
The team picked up its first-ever win in OCAA competition in Hamilton earlier this month — a 13-4 win over the Mohawk Mountaineers — and a complete game from Mooretown’s Brice Knight on the mound, earning her ‘Student Athlete of the Week’ honours. The Lambton Lions capped off the double header with another 6-1 win.
“I am very proud of the way the team has been steadily improving with each game,” said Shortt. “We are quickly learning that in order to compete in the OCAA league, we have to work hard and minimize the mental and physical errors.
“I'm expecting that we will keep battling and improving, as the season moves along at a very rapid pace.”
Lambton Women’s softball action continues Wednesday, Sept. 28 at Tecumseh Park, Sarnia, at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
