The Corunna Lady Giants program earned its first-ever provincial title earlier this month when the Under-10 Mite team won the Provincial Women’s Softball Association’s (PWSA) ‘B’ Championship.

“Hopefully this puts the Lady Giants more in the spotlight as one of the top softball programs in the area,” said coach Jason Nisbet, following the team’s golden performance in Cobourg, Aug. 17- 19. “Being the first team to win a provincial championship for the Lady Giants is something these girls should remember for a long time.

“The response from the community has been unbelievable.”

The team came out on top in the 9-7 final over Vaughn, after three-straight wins against Cobourg, Aurora and Waterloo – following a 10-5 loss to Chatham in the opening match-up.

In their semi-final game, the Giants were down 6-0 with two innings to go.

“The comeback kids did it again… scraped, clawed, bunted, hit and stole their way to an incredible 7-6 win,” said Nisbet, adding that pitcher Abbey Ong was named top player by the PWSA.

“The girls never quit for a second, and were rewarded with the gold.”
