Your local hometown newspaper has been nominated for a major provincial award.

The Ontario Community Newspaper Association has named The Sarnia Journal a finalist for one of its “General Excellence Awards.”

The honour, the OCNA’s highest, recognizes overall outstanding achievement in the community press, including editorial, advertising and layout.

The other nominees in the category for newspapers with 22,500 to 45,000 circulation are the Norfolk News and Waterloo Chronicle.

“Ours is a talented and very hard-working team,” said editor George Mathewson, “but to be ranked among Ontario’s best in just the paper’s second year is pretty amazing stuff.”

The winners will be announced at an awards gala April 22 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Vaughan, Ont.
