Imperial Oil partners with Sting for team’s 25th anniversary

Imperial Oil and the Sarnia Sting have announced a partnership for the Ontario Hockey League team’s 25th anniversary season.

Imperial Oil and the Sarnia Sting have announced a partnership for the Ontario Hockey League team’s 25th anniversary season.

The sponsorship agreement will include new or revamped youth programs, including a school breakfast program and Skate with the Sting event.

“To be able to align ourselves with one of our city’s largest employers and nationally recognizable brands like Imperial and Esso is truly an honour,” said Sting President Bill Abercrombie.

Imperial has a deep association with Sarnia and supported the Grey Cup winning Imperials teams.

In 1936 the company began sponsoring Hockey Night in Canada radio broadcasts and introduced the game’s “three stars” to promote its Three Star brand of gasoline.

“We’ve been a part of this community for more than a century, and Imperial has a long history of support here,”

Imperial technical manager Andrew Mitton told a news conference last week.
