A new “one-stop” job-posting site is now available to help people find work in Sarnia-Lambton.
The ‘Work In Sarnia Lambton’ (WISL) tool kit was launched June 1 by the Sarnia Lambton Workforce Development Board and currently has about 700 individual job postings, says the SLWDB’s Mikelle Bryson-Campbell.
The site at https://www.slwdb.org/was in the works prior to the pandemic but launching it now was important given the number of people who lost jobs due to COVID-19, she said.
An SLWDB survey found about 37% of the workforce in Sarnia-Lambton temporarily or permanently lost jobs since the pandemic began.
The WISL tool kit automatically collects job postings from the top 23 job sites for the area, everything from Community Employment Services and Aboriginal Jobs to Wow Jobs and Indeed.
Anyone can access the listings free-of-charge to see job descriptions, location, date of posting, and job duration. In the eight days since the launch, the site has attracted 1,792 visitors.
The online job-hunting tool kit also includes a regional census data map, which Bryson-Campbell said provides employers and new business owners with key information about the region's demographics.
“This is a new tool to match job seekers with local employers,” she said.
“It was originally going to launch in March but we waited until June 1 when we knew people would be looking for work again.”
