How to combat bicycle thefts

With stolen bicycles being recovered at a rate of one day in Sarnia, city police have some tips for owners.

Record and store your bike’s serial number by writing it down or taking a photo. If your bike lacks a serial number, engrave an identifiable mark that’s out of sight and specific to you.

Identifying features help police recover and return bikes locally and through a Canada-wide system.

And consider buying a high-end lock. Well-trained thieves carry bolt cutters that snip through a chain or cable lock in seconds, police say.
