Sarnia’s Jose and Antonio Ordenes snapped this photo of a solar eclipse on June 10.

The father-and-son astrophotography team set up at 5:45 a.m. in a field near the Mooretown campground and stared in awe as the moon passed in front of the rising sun, said 15-year-old Antonio Ordenes.

“It was pretty breathtaking. It was an amazing experience.”

Looking for a hobby during the pandemic, they took a telescope that had belonged to Antonio’s late grandfather to a stargazing event at Point Pelee last summer. “We were able to see Saturn that day, and then we were instantly hooked,” Jose Ordenes said.

They used a camera adaptor and a special solar filter to capture this shot.

“Every clear night there is, we go out,” the younger Ordenes said. "And it’s always best to go away from cities where the light pollution drowns out the sky.”
