An emergency fund has been established to help support the urgent and highest priority needs at Bluewater Health in its fight against COVID-19.

“We’ve had multiple requests from the community as to how they can help out during this unprecedented time,” said Kathy Alexander, executive director of the Bluewater Health Foundation.

“Right now we are in need of monetary donations more than ever to ensure we can quickly respond to needs that may emerge from the fight against COVID-19.”

Donations will be used to support front-line healthcare professionals and buy critical equipment and technology to help diagnose and treat patients now and beyond.

As of Monday morning, the hospital was treating 15 patients with COVID-19 and had reported four deaths from the virus.

Another nine patients are in hospital suspected of having the virus and are awaiting test results.

Last week, Bluewater Health prepared for the surge of people needing respiratory treatment by discharging as many patients as possible to their own homes and area nursing and long-term care homes.
