Bluewater Health has signed a short-term lease on an Exmouth Street property to be used as a mental health facility should overall hospital admissions surge during the pandemic.

Starting today, the Inpatient Post-Acute Care facility will be used as an emergency backup for patients in stable condition and almost ready for hospital discharge.

The home-like facility will be supervised 24/7 and operate under the same rules and visitor restrictions as the hospital’s mental health department.

The COVID-19 outbreak hasn’t decreased the community’s need for mental health care, said Paula Reaume-Zimmer, VP of mental health and addiction services.

“This short-term facility gives us the necessary flexibility to meet rapidly evolving demands and provide patients with the best treatment options.”
