A place where mental health clients and their families can meet and recover has received a $25,000 grant from the Sarnia Community Foundation.

A place where mental health clients and their families can meet and recover has received a $25,000 grant from the Sarnia Community Foundation.

Open Doors is a city centre that offers a supportive environment to anyone over the age of 16 who has a mental illness or has used the mental health system. The goal is to share experiences, avoid isolation and rebuild self-esteem.

The money will help the Consumer Survivor Association Lambton work on suicide prevent and assist families with more peer support, said executive director Sabrina Rocca.

Since 1983, the Sarnia Community Foundation has given nearly $3 million back to a wide range of community interests doing innovative work.
