The City of Sarnia’s Environmental Advisory Committee is preparing to celebrate those who go the extra mile for the environment with an updated Go-green Spotlight Environmental Awards program.

In the past, the committee has awarded environmental leaders in the community via an in-person ceremony once a year, coinciding with Earth Day.

This year, in an effort to inspire the public and celebrate green leaders year-round, the awards will transition to a semi-monthly format.

Nominees will be selected every other month by the committee and featured on the City website and social media channels.

“Environmental stewardship is worth celebrating all year long, so that’s what we are doing,” said committee staff liaison Cory King, supervisor, forestry and horticulture services.

“It’s a chance to more frequently and more prominently recognize those who double down on sustainability and protecting the environment, serving as an inspiration to others in our community.”

Spotlight Awards recognize individuals, groups, and businesses in the categories of business stewardship, eco-warrior, community stewardship, Sarnia’s greenest classrooms, and youth.

To learn more about award categories and submit a nomination visit www.sarnia.ca/GreenSpotlight.

The first 2023 Go-Green Spotlight recipient will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2023.
