Ontario’s Education Ministry has approved $4.56 million for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board to buy eight acres of land for a new elementary school.

The as-yet unnamed French Immersion school will be located on the southeast side of the Rapids Parkway, not far from St. Anne and St. Patrick’s High School.

“We believe this is the perfect location for our new Sarnia school,” said education director Deb Crawford.

The facility will offer French Immersion to the growing student population currently at Gregory A. Hogan school, as well as an 88-space child-care centre run by Lambton County.

The ministry had already approved money for the school and daycare, but not the land.

When the new school opens, possibly in 2022, students attending Sacred Heart school will move to Hogan, and Sacred Heart will be closed.
