Free foiling

Published on

Drawing power from only the wind, waves and an occasional paddle, Michael Pisarczyk “surfs” a foil board near the Blue Water Bridge on Nov. 24.

A hydrofoil under the moving board uses its own kinetic energy to lift the board out of the water, allowing Pisarczyk to pump it up and down and gain speed.

“With the proper timing and execution you can get up onto the foil,” he explained. “After that, it is a magic carpet ride.”
