First rounder signs with Sting

Sasha Chmelevski will suit up for the Sarnia Sting this season.

The 10th overall pick in last month’s Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection has signed an agreement with the team.

The 15-year-old averaged nearly a point a game in 25 games with the Detroit Honeybaked U16 program last season, and had an impressive showing at the recent Orientation Camp at the RBC Centre where he scored once and set up two other goals in his first scrimmage game.

“I’m a playmaker,” said the 5”11, 171 lb. centre in a release. “I pride myself on making players around me better on the ice,” he added.

Chmelevski says he’ll train hard over the summer preparing for a long Ontario Hockey League season.

Sting General Manager Nick Sinclair said he’s excited to have what he sees as an offensively gifted player in tow.

“Sasha is a character young man whom we feel has a very bright future in our league and beyond,” he said.
