A resident of Lambton County has tested positive for West Nile virus, the first confirmed human case of the virus in the county since 2012.

Three older adults in Windsor-Essex have died of the mosquito-borne disease in recent weeks and 15 people have tested positive in that area so far this year.

Lambton Public Health is asking resident to prevent the growth of infected mosquito populations by draining areas of stagnant water on their properties.

Other preventative measures include wearing protective, light-coloured clothing and using insect repellents containing DEET.
