Workers are onsite replacing about 20% of the collector panels with new and more efficient hardware, a company spokesperson said.

The “optimization” work will not alter either the facility’s physical footprint or capacity.

The 1,100-acre solar farm on the east side of Churchill Road was, when built, the largest in the world and is still one of the largest in Canada.

In operation since 2009, it generates enough electricity to power almost 15,000 homes, the company says.
