A 59-year-Petrolia man was arrested after officers with the Lambton OPP spotted alcoholic drinks being thrown from a vehicle, Sunday afternoon.

Police say the suspect vehicle was first spotted disobeying a stop sign at the intersection of Marthaville Road and Lasalle Line, around 1:30 p.m.

“Officers followed the vehicle for a short distance when they observed the driver toss alcoholic beverages from the vehicle,” a news release stated.

Police stopped the vehicle and administered a roadside screening device. The driver was arrested for impaired operation and taken to a Lambton OPP detachment where he provided two samples over the limit.

The accused faces charges of impaired driving and disobey stop sign/failure to stop (Highway Traffic Act).

He was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
