Lambton’s medical officer of health is entering the world of politics.

Dr. Sudit Ranade announced today he will run as the Liberal candidate in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex when the federal election is called.

Ranade said he will take a leave of absence from his leadership position at Lambton Public Health once the writ drops.

“I am excited to begin this new adventure,” he said.

“Lambton Public Health has a fantastic team whose passion and dedication to our community has been evident throughout my tenure, but especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Together, we have made great strides in providing the residents of Lambton County the information, tools, strategies, and vaccines to help combat COVID-19.

“I have no doubt the team will continue this work while I explore this new chapter.”

The health unit is currently looking for an acting medical officer of health to work an interim basis during the election.

Because of the pressures facing public health, filling the legislated position as Sarnia-Lambton’s top doctor is a priority, the health unit said in a release.
