Dr. Karalyn Dueck has been named the permanent Medical Officer of Health (MOH) for the County of Lambton, officials announced Friday.

The appointment of Dr. Dueck, who has been serving as the county’s acting MOH since November 2022, came from Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier of Ontario and minister of Health, the health unit said.

“We are thrilled to receive this notification from the province,” said Warden Kevin Marriott, who also sits as Chair for the County’s Board of Health. “Dr. Dueck’s transition into the role of Acting MOH was seamless and we are excited to continue working with her.”

Prior to joining Lambton Public Health, Dr. Dueck served as the Acting Associate Medical Officer of Health for the Middlesex-London Health Unit and has also had experience with Region of Peel Public Health, York Region Public Health, and as a Family Physician with the Guelph Community Health Centre and the Bramalea Community Health Centre.

“We were very excited to bring Dr. Dueck on board in November, and we are even more excited to finalize her permanent appointment,” said Andrew Taylor, general manager of the County’s Public Health Services Division.

A licensed member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), Dr. Dueck is also a certified Family Physician with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) and holds the specialty certification as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Public Health and Preventive Medicine (FRCPC), considered the gold standard of certification for medical officers of health.

“I am grateful to be in this role and I look forward to continuing the good work of the team at Lambton Public Health as we evolve to continue to meet the needs of and promote the positive health and well-being of our community,” said Dr. Dueck.
