Sarnia Sting co-owner and governor Derian Hatcher is stepping down as the hockey team’s head coach.
In five seasons as bench boss, the former NHL defenceman and Stanley Cup winner led the Sting to two record-winning seasons and captured the team’s first division title since 2008.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with the players as head coach of the Sarnia Sting the past five seasons. However, at this time I feel it is in the best interest of myself, my family and the team that I step away from my role as head coach,” he said, adding it’s time for a fresh voice behind the bench.”
Hatcher said he continues to act as governor and remains committed to the organization and local community.
A search for a new head coach has begun.
