The future looks bright for cross-country running at Northern Collegiate.

The Vikings captured both the Midget and Junior Girls titles at the recent ‘Thrill on the Hill’ event at the University of Windsor, with no fewer than eight of its athletes cracking the top 10 in their respective divisions.

“All our kids are working hard and we're happy with the results,” said Vikings cross-country coach Mark Scott.

Caroline Forbes won the individual title in the Midget Girls division with a 13-second victory over her nearest competitor, while her Northern teammates, Lauren Perkins and Taylor Clark, finished fifth and ninth.

Katie Barwitzki, Sarah Riser and Sarah Scott placed second, third and fourth in the Junior Girls race, while Andrew Davies and Noah Harding finished fourth in the Midget Boys and Junior Boys divisions respectively.

The event was the final warm-up to the Lambton Kent Secondary School Athletic Association cross-country championship scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the Blenheim Golf Club.

The SWOSSA championships will be contested at Sarnia's Canatara Park on Oct. 22.
