Bright’s Grove residents have been seeing coyotes and their tracks this past week on the ice shelves of Lake Huron, between Mike Weir Park and Waterworks Road.

This one, which was sitting the ice just west of Telfer Road, was photographed by Sue Mantha.

“There was talk of sightings but no proof,” resident Alan Jones told The Journal.

“I asked on the, “If you grew up in Bright’s Grove” Facebook group if anyone had a picture. Within minutes there were two pictures of coyotes from a distance. Then, the next day, we were amazed to see this picture posted by Sue Mantha, shared by permission,” he said.

Coyotes have frequently been seen on the winter lake ice near Sarnia over the past 15 years, usually singly but sometimes in small packs.

It’s believed they are hunting for waterfowl and other food.
