The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sarnia-Lambton climbed to 128 Thursday, up from 119 reported Wednesday.

Lambton Public Health has also declared a second outbreak -- this time at Lambton Meadowview Villa in Petrolia -- after a staff member there tested positive for the virus.

The number of deaths remains at 11, while 41 people are listed as recovered.

Six of the deaths have been linked to an outbreak at Landmark Village seniors’ home — where 23 people (seven staff and 16 residents) have been infected to date.

At least eight health-care workers at Bluewater Health have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last two weeks, the Journal has learned.

A total of 730 test results have come back, with 18% positive (128) and 82% negative (602).

At Bluewater Health, 23 confirmed COVID-19 patients and 15 presumed to have the virus (awaiting results) were being treated Thursday, compared to 28 patients and 16 awaiting results last Friday.

Sarnia-Lambton’s first five cases of COVID-19 were confirmed March 25.

Across Ontario, 514 new cases were reported Thursday, bringing the provincial total to 8,961, while 423 people have died, and 4,194 have recovered.

Lambton Public Health continues to recommend that all residents practice social and physical distancing to decrease the transmission of COVID-19.
