Council eyes renaming municipal marina after Andy Brandt

A proposal to rename Sarnia Bay Marina after former mayor and MPP Andy Brandt was set to be heard by city council Monday.

A proposal to rename Sarnia Bay Marina after former mayor and MPP Andy Brandt was set to be heard by city council Monday.

Such a move would recognize the significant contributions Brandt has made to the community through his career as a businessman and 20 years of political leadership as alderman, mayor, MPP and PC party leader.

As a member of provincial parliament, he was instrumental in the development of the marina and is a long-standing member of its advisory board.

Brandt, 80, also played a major role in bringing Highway 402 to Sarnia, redeveloping the city’s downtown, raising millions of dollars for Lambton College as its foundation chair, and modernizing the LCBO.

If approved, the name Sarnia Bay Marina would be changed to the Andrew S. Brandt Marina at Sarnia Bay.

Council was also considering renovations and upgrades to the facility, to be paid for through a community fundraising campaign.
