The woman behind Lambton’s groundbreaking Circles program was honoured with a lifetime achievement award last month.

Gayle Montgomery received the award at the Ontario Municipal Social Services Association symposium in Thunder Bay on May 13, recognizing her 36-year career in human services.

Montgomery spent 30 years working within the County’s Social Services Division, implementing the Circles program in 2009 while also establishing the first Circles chapter in Canada.

Circles is a training program that teaches participants how to escape poverty by setting goals, acquiring education and accessing a wider circle of resources and supports.

Montgomery retired on May 31.
