Pedestrians and cyclists won’t be getting a public pathway between Lakeshore Road and Baxter Park.

City staff nixed the idea of a connecting link through the five-lot subdivision council has approved for the former Kinsmen Centre lands at 656 Lakeshore Rd.

The access link was requested at a contentious Dec. 11 meeting at which council agreed to sell off the public land for new housing.

Staff said in a report people can still get to Baxter Park from Colborne Road, and providing a walking and cycling path might lead to problems.

“The City has historically received numerous complaints related to noise, security, vandalism, maintenance etc., from residents adjacent to existing walkways leading to municipal parks,” the report states.

The Kinsmen Centre’s demolition, starting with asbestos removal, was to begin this week.
