Sarnia’s fire chief is stepping down after a 26-year career with Sarnia Fire Rescue.
John Kingyens plans to retire this summer, the city said.
Kingyens has been a firefighter, fire prevention officer, safety training officer and was appointed deputy chief before moving into the top job in 2013.
Last year, Kingyens was made an executive chief fire officer by the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs and was a member of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs and Urban Fire Chiefs Committee.
A recruitment process to find a new chief will begin soon, City Hall said.
