Both live episodes and repeats of Sarnia city council meetings can now be watched online, at home or around the world.

New cameras and a switching system have been installed at City Hall that allows live Internet webcasting of meetings. Users can also view archived footage within 48 hours.

The change has brought about more viewer-friendly camera angles, including the ability to capture the audience in council chambers.

City staff is indexing each meeting by agenda item, which allows users to easily access specific topics of interest.

CogecoTV has long covered council meetings live on Cable channel 6 and is continuing to broadcast the in-house feed from City Hall.

To watch a meeting live or the archived video, visit the City of Sarnia website at www.sarnia.ca/council-meetings and click on “Web Streaming” in the grey bar.

The equipment and electrical upgrade cost about $90,000, and the webcasts are expected to cost about $16,000 a year.
