Motorists with handicapped parking permits no longer have to pay for parking in municipal parking lots.

City council agreed last week to waive the cost of parking for up to two hours in accessible parking spaces.

The move was recommended by the city’s accessibility advisory committee, which had noted it’s difficult for some people going to and from ticket machines, especially in lots that still have accessibility barriers.

After two hours, the vehicle will need to move or be fined.

City staff say the move will have a minimal impact on the budget.
