The first overall pick in the 2014 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection last month has agreed to terms on a player agreement and education package with the Sarnia Sting.

Jakob Chychrun led all GTHL defencemen last season with 16 goals and 43 points in 29 games with the Toronto Jr. Canadians.

He also recorded four points in five games as an underage skater for Team Ontario at the World Under- 17 Challenge Hockey in Nova Scotia last Christmas.

Sting Director of Player Development Bill Abercrombie said the 6'2," 195 lb. blueliner is part of the foundation the club is building.

"We have a plan and a vision for this organization in which a lot of ground work was laid last season. Now we are able to add the best player available in the 2014 priority selection, which only bolsters our outlook for the future.

“Our fans will be in for a treat being able to watch a player of Jakob’s caliber on a nightly basis. He has all the physical tools but is also an extremely mature, well-spoken and insightful young man,” he said.

The Boca Raton, Florida native is looking forward to attending the team's orientation camp at the RBC Centre next month with several other Sting prospects.

The camp will feature scrimmages on Saturday, June 7 at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 8 at 10 a.m., as well as a meet and greet with fans at the Hive Bar and Grill on Saturday at 5 p.m.
