Centennial Park grass cutting

Published on

The long-awaited grass cutting in Centennial Park is set to begin Thursday, Aug. 7.

The company hired by city hall, General Maintenance Services, is expected to take two days to cut within the fenced-off park, including around the locomotive.

Much of Centennial was fenced off last year after it was found to be contaminated with lead, oil and asbestos.

Air monitoring will be done around the perimeter and protective equipment worn while the cutting is underway.

Once the grass is cut, the park will be surveyed in preparation for the first phase of remediation work, which involves covering the contaminated soil with fabric, new soil and grass.

In the event of bad weather or delays, the fallback dates are Aug. 11-12
