Braves bow out at national championship

The Sarnia Braves made an early exit from the Canadian senior baseball championship.

An 11-10 loss to Manitoba in 10 innings on Aug. 24 cost the Braves a shot at the playoff round.

The team, which was representing Ontario, was making its first appearance at a national championship in 25 years. It finished with a 1-3 record in its five-team pool.

Slugger Julian Service went 5 for 15 over the tournament, with three home runs and five RBIs.

Jameson Hart went 6 for 14, adding four doubles and four RBIs.

Host New Brunswick defeated Nova Scotia 3-2 in the gold medal game.

The Braves also hosted the Baseball Ontario Championships over the Labour Day weekend, with 31 teams and 400 players expected.
