A musical blast from the past is seeking to bolster the coffers of Bluewaterland’s acclaimed symphony orchestra.

The Imperial Theatre will play host next week to the “Big Band Blast,” a concert by the Bluewater Big Band -under the direction of Tim Hummel and featuring jazz vocalist Sonja Gustafson- in support of the International Symphony Orchestra.

While only the Bluewater Big Band will take the stage that night, the event will act as an introduction to the ISO, says executive director Anne Brown.

“That will strictly be a Big Band performance … but I would say half of the Big Band members are either past or current players of the ISO,” she said, adding the fundraiser is a “great way to get people aware of our organization.”

Brown notes the symphony is a unique institution with a lush, full orchestra sound unmatched in a “60-mile radius.”
