Dr. Warren Teel spotted this family of opossums in the front yard of his Bright’s Grove home the morning of June 5. The mother was crossing the driveway with 10 and possibly 11 babies along for the ride.

Dr. Warren Teel spotted this family of opossums in the front yard of his Bright’s Grove home the morning of June 5. The mother was crossing the driveway with 10 and possibly 11 babies along for the ride. “She sauntered along fairly slowly and deliberately, and seemed to be struggling a bit with the weight of all these kids that seemed reluctant to leave home," Teel said. "A great metaphor for parenthood." Opossums are the size of a large house cat, Canada’s only marsupial, eat just about anything, and, when frightened, really do “play possum” by fainting to feign death. Photos courtesy, Warren Teel
