Attempted murder charge laid

City police have charged a 38-year-old Sarnia man with attempted murder and arson following a serious south-end house fire.

City firefighters arriving in the pre-dawn hours of Oct. 21 to find flames and heavy smoke billowing from the two-storey home on Alfred Street.

They entered and searched. A 24-year-old city man was rushed to hospital with burns and lung damage, Sarnia Fire Rescue said. A firefighter was also slightly hurt.

The accused and victim were involved in an altercation before the fire broke out, police said.

Peter Kupec, 38, has been charged with attempt murder, aggravated assault, arson with disregard for human Life and fleeing police.

Police said more charges were possible.
