Apartment fire death was accidental

The cause of death of a woman killed in an apartment fire on Trillium Park has been deemed non-suspicious.

Sarnia Police said the July 7 fire was accidental and the 65-year-old resident died as a result of smoke inhalation.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on Tuesday, 19 firefighters from four stations rushed to the high-rise in the 800 block of Trillium Park and found smoke and flames in a 7th floor apartment unit.

Firefighters quickly removed the woman and brought the fire under control. She was taken by ambulance to Bluewater Health.

The incident was investigated by the Office of The Fire Marshal, Sarnia Police and Sarnia Fire staff.

The victim’s identity has not been released at the request of family, the department said.
