The purchase of another sidewalk plough will allow Sarnia to meet the provincial guidelines for snow removal this winter.

The arrival of a fifth tractor in early January should enabling the public works department to clear 150 kilometres of sidewalks within 48 hours of a snowfall.

Prior to the new 48-hour standard, the city was clearing 152 kilometres of sidewalks in a 48 to 72 hour timeframe.

Council also amended a bylaw to give the CAO or city engineer the authority to declare a significant weather event during a heavy snowfall.

During significant weather events, public works would be given more time to complete its snow-clearing obligations, City Hall said.
