A bio-based feedstock company from California is preparing to build a commercial-scale demonstration facility in Sarnia.
Origin Materials of Sacramento said construction will begin next year, thanks to an investment from the Sarnia-based Bioindustrial Innovation Canada (BIC).
The company said it selected Sarnia because the unique cluster of bio-based businesses that have opened locally in recent years.
“The critical mass of infrastructure, expertise and experience in Sarnia makes it a clear global frontrunner for commercializing industrial biochemical processes,” said CEO and co-founder John Bissell.
Origin has developed proprietary technology that can transform plant-based feedstocks into a wide range of chemicals that have existing market demand.
