A rundown of what’s up during this month’s First Friday

Numerous exhibitions, a cake artist and a pedestrian street mall are among the new things on tap for the February First Friday cultural walkabout in downtown Sarnia.

Most stores will stay open late on Friday, Feb. 7 and street and lot parking is free after 6 p.m.

JUDITH & NORMAN ALIX ART GALLERY - 147 Lochiel St. - 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Two new exhibits opening: Meryl McMaster with "Confluence,” and  "Inaabiwin," works by Scott Benessiinaabandan, Hannah Claus, Tanya Lukin Linklater, Meryl McMaster & Gret Staats. Both new exhibits run to May 3.

PEDESTRIAN MALL

Lochiel Street between Christina and Front will be closed off from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. as Sarnia tests the concept of a permanent pedestrian-only downtown street.  City representatives will be on hand gathering feedback.

 

ARTOPIA GALLERY & FRAMING - 188 Christina St N. – 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. New and original works by Shane Norrie, Joyce Iacono and John Lightfoot, as well as new ceramics.

PETITE A LA CARTE  - 170 Christina Street N. Art by Bill Walters, Lynne Brogden and Chantal Simon, plus new work by Lynne Kenneith Brogden.

DOWNTOWN MARKET - 140 Christina St. N. – 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. More than 15 pop-up vendors, Henna tattoos with The Painted Cat, Elle & Cat Grand Opening, special feature by Piquette Frozen Meals, and a photo booth by JNC Creative, with proceeds to CMHA. Events continue Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

CHEEKY MONKEY  - 130 Christina St. N – 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Live in-store music with Beer Store Money.  'Coastal' art show & sale by W.A. Walters continues until mid-April.

COWBOYS & INDIANS - 121 Christina St. N - Open until 9 p.m.  Works by First Nations artists.

LAWRENCE HOUSE CENTRE FOR THE ARTS - 127 Christina St. S. – 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Opening of the Lambton College Arts Collective Exhibition. Work by pottery, photography and drawing students and instructors, and a special open stage featuring poetry, storytelling and music with international Flair.   President's Awards presentation at 7 p.m.

RIVER BANK & CO. - 172 Front St. N. – 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Welcoming cake artist Jen Fulcher, of the House of Cake Baking Co. as a new vendor. New vendors, art and locally made goods.

ONE TOOTH - 155 Front St N – 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Live music by Demi Krall performing covers and originals.

ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, BRANCH 62 - 286 Front St. N. – 8 p.m. to midnight. Music and dancing, featuring Wanda and CountyLine. All welcome.

INSIGNIA HOTEL - Legacy Dining Room - 283 Christina St N – 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring the live band CD/DC.

THE TIN FIDDLER - 146 Christina St. N. - 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. - Live music.

UPS N’ DOWNS - 226 Front St. N. - 9 p.m. to a.m. Live music with Dan Butts.

 

BLUE LINE PUB & LOUNGE - 180 Front St. N - 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Live music with Dixon.
