Sarnia Police say charges are expected to be laid after a 16-year-old took the keys of his parents car and drove it right through a brick home early Monday morning.

The youth was taken to hospital with injuries that aren’t life-threatening, but he remains in hospital under observation.

Police said the teen took the 2016 Dodge Challenger without permission at 2:30 a.m. His parents heard the vehicle leave and called police.

A short time later, the car was seen headed eastbound on Cathcart Boulevard. It crossed Modeland Road, charged up the front lawn, skimmed by trees and broke through the brick wall at the front of the home, police said.

It then continued directly through the home and wound up on the back patio.

Luckily, no one was home at the time, police said.

The house suffered significant damage and is being assessed for structural integrity.
